Our story takes place in two different periods: Chicago 1936, in the height of the Great Depression, which is our NOW; and Paris 1896, during the great Belle Époque, which is our THEN. Characters can reside within either period but those who are known as SONDERS exist in both, maintaining two separate, and sometimes very different lives (or identities!) as they are transported without warning from one period to the other.

There is – as yet – no explanation for the phenomenon, and it affects each Sonder differently, though the duration and frequency of their displacements generally increase over time. Many Sonders have been enjoying the blessings and enduring the challenges of their unique dichotomy for years but every so often a new lost soul joins their ranks, falling asleep in one period and waking up in another, where they are forced to reconsider everything they thought they knew about the spectrum of time and their existence on it.

Shimmer is a 21+, public, Jcink Premium, real life that is located in the fictional city of Kósmima, Oregon. Built in the 1850s, Kósmima became one of the gems of the west, becoming a powerhouse city. The people are a kaleidoscope of races, ethnicities, backgrounds, genders, and sexualities. That Summer is set in a bustling, world renowned ski resort town in Colorado. It is a relatively small community full of friendly faces, creative things to do year-round, and they boast a very eco-friendly community and lifestyle. However, this past summer, a blog dedicated to spilling the town's dark secrets popped up and tried to stir up a bunch of trouble within the community. Nobody knows the whys or the hows of it, but it has become a town nuisance. And it is starting to put everyone just a little bit on edge.

To make matters worse, the blog is really digging into the past by bringing the case of missing Carter Townsend right back to the surface of everyone's minds after 23 years of it being left dormant and forgotten about by the town's residents. It's making everyone feel very on edge about everything and maybe Alpine Valley isn't so idyllic after all.
