It began in 2024. The United States president won the election in a right-wing landslide, and one of his first actions was to defund NASA and effectively neuter their research. A gross lack of funding allowed a greedy corporation to buy up NASA, and all employees were fired and replaced by AI. Looking back, many would say this was the death knell for humanity, as it was because of a lack of funding that caused NASA to miss the asteroid as it struck Earth, landing somewhere near the US. The impact was great, sending enough debris into the atmosphere to thrust the world into a years-long impact winter. In these dark times, many lives were lost to sickness, hunger, and to the cruelty of other desperate humans. All across the world, society fell, and from the ashes rose the vampires—creatures of the night, immortal and bloodthirsty and looking to stake their claim in the remains of the world. Humans fought back in resistance, but the vampires easily overpowered the humans and overwhelmed them. The world is now a frozen wasteland while humans and vampires alike war for dominion and survival.
